Helga has a B.S. in Business Administration and her Masters in Public Policy and Administration.  Before founding CFG, she was a Vice President and Trust Officer for SunTrust Bank, where she aided affluent individuals and families with their daily financial needs as well as providing retirement and estate planning techniques.

In September 1999, she completed the 18 month long Financial Planning Certificate Program with Oglethorpe University in preparation for taking the CFP® Certification Examination. She passed this rigorous, comprehensive two-day, 10-hour exam in November 1999. Having met the education, examination, experience and ethics requirements set forth by the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Board of Standards, Inc., Helga received authorization to use the CFP® marks of distinction in July 2001.

“I strive to educate, motivate and empower clients to confidently move toward realization of their dreams,” she says. “I love my role. It gives me an enormous sense of satisfaction to help regular people, just like me, send their kids to college, build for the future, retire worry-free, and enjoy a better night’s sleep.”

They enjoy gardening and volunteering in their community.  Gardening is the ultimate relaxation.“Just like helping my clients plant and grow the seeds of financial success, I love nurturing plants and helping them grow to their strongest, richest best.”

Laura moved from Los Angeles to Atlanta after graduating from the University of Southern California in 2004. She sold residential foreclosures during the recession, then spent a few years as an executive recruiter before finding her true passion in personal finance. After a fortuitous meeting with Helga, Laura joined CFG in 2015, attended UGA’s Terry College of Business Executive Program for CFP® Certification, and passed the rigorous CFP® exam in November of 2016.

Laura loves to help people first understand their dreams and goals and then how their money can support them living their more ideal lives. To her, it is clear that the answer to balancing wealth and happiness is not found in your net worth, but that by examining values and developing a direction in life, and thinking clearly about how we are spending our time and our money, we can get closer to our optimal state.

Having a deep understanding of the numbers is essential, and Laura is dedicated to consistently increasing her knowledge of the technicalities and nuance of financial planning so that she can best advise her clients with all the tools available to them. Laura believes that personal financial success is overwhelmingly behavioral, and that financial projections and planning techniques cannot propel her clients into a space of confidence without first collaborating with them to  gain an understanding of their own aspirations and values.

"As a real estate agent selling foreclosed properties after the housing bubble collapsed, I saw firsthand how devastating poor financial decisions (coupled with poor financial policies) could be for families. I knew I wanted to make a difference in people's financial lives - to help them weather the next inevitable downturn with an objective partner and a plan. My greatest fulfillment comes when a client tells me a weight has been lifted and she can see a way forward, can concentrate on her unique purpose rather than worrying about money."

Laura lives with her husband of close to 15 years and their two kids in Avondale Estates. She tries not to take herself too seriously, and enjoys being active outdoors, reading, and the occasional trashy television program.
